The Portón de Campo, the old city gate and drawbridge of Coloñia del Sacramento, Uruguay. The photo was taken before sunrise and is a good illustration of the photographic technique of using a slow shutter speed to balance artificial and natural light. Coloñia is a port town on Uruguay?s south coast on the Río de la Plata (River Plate) situated on the opposite side to Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. It was founded in 1680 by the Portugese and is the oldest town in Uruguay. The historical zone (Barrio Histórico) of Coloñia (full name Coloñia del Sacramento) is a UNESCO world heritage site and a popular tourist destination with Argentines, easily accessible from Buenos Aires by ferry. |
