The Portón de Campo, the old city gate and drawbridge of Coloñia del Sacramento, Uruguay. The Calle de Los Suspiros (Street of Sighs) is one of the most picturesque and photographed streets in the historical quarter of Coloñia del Sacramento, Uruguay. I've come across several stories regarding the origin of the name. One story is that prostitutes worked in the street's buildings and it was named for the sounds that could be heard in the street. Another is that it was because of the sound that slaves made as they were led down to the river. And another that it was named for the sound of the wind blowing from the river. The Río de la Plata (River Plate) can be seen in the background. This photo was taken using a tripod mounted camera and is a good example of the technique of using a slow shutter speed in low light. Especially as the shadow of the tripod is included in the photo.
